Bahrain Work Visa from Pakistan: 7 Stages, 21 Days

A bahrain work visa starts with a work permit applied for by your employer through the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, on its Expat Management System. The authority publishes its own processing times, and the gap between them is the single most useful planning fact available: three working days for an application made from inside Bahrain, twenty-one working days from outside it.

Stage 1 — The employer applies through LMRA

Your employer logs in to the LMRA Expat Management System, opens a new expatriate permit, selects the visa type and enters your job title, salary, contract duration and documents. The employer also pays a job advertisement fee where the worker is coming from outside Bahrain.

Stage 2 — The permit is processed

LMRA processes the application and manages fees, tracking and renewals through the same system. The permit is specific to the employer and the occupation entered.

Stage 3 — Medical appointment is generated

The medical examination appointment is generated automatically by the Ministry of Health, against the centres the employer selected and their available slots. You do not book this yourself.

Stage 4 — Document verification and attestation

See the apostille note below. Bahrain is one of the Gulf states where the route is now shorter.

Stage 5 — Visa issue

The bahrain work visa issues against the approved permit.

Stage 6 — Protector of Emigrants registration

You travel and the employer completes residency formalities in Bahrain.

Why a bahrain work visa takes twenty-one working days

LMRA states three working days for applications from inside Bahrain and twenty-one working days from outside. Twenty-one working days is not three weeks — allow for weekends and public holidays and it is closer to a month before that stage alone completes.

Plan the rest of the file around it. Attestation and the police clearance certificate can run in parallel during that window; a medical taken too early can expire inside it. A promoter who sequences those correctly saves you the difference.

The medical, and the Non-Wafid exception

The examination is carried out at a GAMCA-certified centre in Pakistan. Where there is no accredited centre in the candidate’s city or country, LMRA publishes a Non-Wafid medical checkup form that can be completed and stamped by an official medical centre instead.

Documents: Bahrain takes the apostille route

Bahrain has been a Contracting Party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 31 December 2013, and Pakistan since 9 March 2023. For documents moving between them, an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs replaces the old consular chain — no Bahraini embassy step.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a bahrain work visa myself?

No. The employer applies through the LMRA Expat Management System. There is no candidate-side application, and anyone offering to sell you one without an employer is selling something that does not exist.

What are the LMRA working hours for applications?

Processing times are stated in working days rather than calendar days, and public holidays in both countries affect them. Ask your promoter to confirm the current position rather than relying on a figure in an article.

Does the permit tie me to one employer?

The permit is issued against a specific employer and occupation. Ask about the transfer position in writing before you sign, not after you arrive.

What to ask your employer about the LMRA application

You cannot see inside the Expat Management System, so the only way to know where a bahrain work visa has reached is to ask specific questions. Vague reassurance is not information.

Has the permit application actually been submitted, and on what date? The twenty-one working days run from submission, not from when you were offered the job. Those are often weeks apart.

Which job title and salary were entered? These go into the system and become the terms on record. If what was entered differs from what you were offered, that gap is far cheaper to close now than after arrival.

Which medical centres were selected? The Ministry of Health generates your appointment against the employer’s chosen centres and their available slots. If they picked centres far from you, ask for that to be changed before the appointment is generated.

Has the job advertisement fee been paid? It applies where the worker is coming from outside Bahrain, and an unpaid step stalls everything behind it.

Write these down and ask them once a week. A bahrain work visa is processed by people using a system, and a polite, specific, dated question is what keeps a file moving rather than sitting.
