A qatar work visa is processed differently from every other Gulf route, and the difference works in the worker’s favour. Qatar moved the medical examination, the biometric enrolment and the signing of the employment contract out of Doha and into the country of origin. For Pakistani workers that means a Qatar Visa Centre in Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore.
This guide sets out the seven steps to a qatar work visa, explains why the centre model matters, and lists what to take with you on the day.

Step 1 — The job offer
A Qatari employer makes an offer through a licensed Overseas Employment Promoter. As with every overseas posting from Pakistan, the route runs through a licensed promoter, and the occupation named in the employer’s demand is the specification everything downstream is measured against. Step 2 — The employer generates the application number
Your employer in Qatar creates the visa requirement or application number through the Ministry of Interior system. You cannot book anything without it. If someone offers to book your Qatar Visa Centre appointment before an employer has issued that number, they are selling you something that does not exist.
Step 3 — Document attestation in Pakistan
Educational documents are attested by the Higher Education Commission, personal documents by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the set is then attested by the Qatar embassy. Step 4 — Book the Qatar Visa Centre appointment
With the application number in hand, book at the centre nearest to you. The Pakistan centres are in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. They operate Monday to Friday, with biometric enrolment typically running from 08:30 to 16:30 and medical screening from 09:00 to 17:00. Confirm hours when you book, because they are set by the centre and not by your agent.
Step 5 — Biometrics, medical and contract signing
This is the step that distinguishes a qatar work visa from the rest. In a single visit the centre captures your biometric data, carries out the medical examination — blood tests, chest X-ray, eye examination and a general health check — and handles the digital signing of the official Ministry of Labour electronic employment contract.

Step 6 — Protector of Emigrants registration
Pakistani law applies regardless of destination. Before departure you must appear in person before the Protector of Emigrants together with your licensed promoter, and your agreement is examined and registered in your name. Step 7 — Travel and residence formalities
Because the medical and biometrics were completed in Pakistan, the remaining formalities on arrival are lighter than on most Gulf routes. Your employer completes the residence permit process in Qatar.
Why the Qatar Visa Centre model matters
Three reasons, and they are worth understanding rather than just noting.
First, the contract is signed and recorded in the Qatari system before you leave Pakistan. A worker who has signed an electronic contract lodged with the Ministry of Labour has a registered record of the agreed terms, which is a materially stronger position than arriving and being handed a document at the airport.
Second, a failed medical is discovered at home rather than after you have travelled, resigned from other work and paid for a flight. That is unpleasant news delivered at the cheapest possible moment.
Third, the biometric enrolment happens once, at a known place, on a booked appointment. Compare that with the UAE work visa route, where the medical, biometrics and identity card all happen after arrival inside a sixty-day window, and the practical difference becomes clear.
What to bring to your qatar work visa appointment
- Original passport, valid, plus copies.
- Original CNIC.
- The appointment confirmation and the application number from your employer.
- Attested educational and professional certificates.
- Passport photographs to the specification the centre states when you book.
- Any prior medical records that a screening doctor would reasonably want to see.
Check that your name is spelled identically on the passport, the CNIC and the appointment booking. A mismatch discovered at the counter costs a rebooking, and a rebooking costs a week.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book a Qatar Visa Centre appointment myself?
You book with the application number your employer generates in the Ministry of Interior system. Without that number there is nothing to book against, which is why the employer step has to come first. A licensed promoter will normally handle the booking alongside the rest of the file.
What if I fail the medical at the centre?
No visa is issued. The advantage of the centre model is that you learn this in Pakistan, before spending anything on travel. Discuss the result with your promoter, because whether a replacement or a re-examination is appropriate depends on what the screening found.
Is a qatar work visa faster than other Gulf routes?
Not necessarily faster overall, but the work is distributed differently — more of it happens before departure and less after arrival. That usually means fewer surprises in the first month abroad, which for most workers matters more than the total elapsed time.
Two laws worth knowing about
Two pieces of Qatari legislation changed the position of migrant workers materially, and anyone taking a qatar work visa should know both by number.
Law No. 17 of 2020 established a national minimum wage. It was adopted on 30 August 2020 and came into force on 20 March 2021, setting a basic minimum of QAR 1,000 per month. The International Labour Organization records it as the first non-discriminatory minimum wage in the region: it applies to all workers, of all nationalities, in all sectors, including domestic workers. Where the employer does not provide food and accommodation, allowances for them apply on top of the basic figure.
Law No. 18 of 2020 removed the requirement for a worker to obtain a no-objection certificate from their current employer before changing jobs. Before that change a worker could not accept an alternative offer without their employer’s permission, which is precisely the dependency that makes a bad posting difficult to leave.
Read those two alongside the Qatar Visa Centre model and a pattern emerges: the terms are fixed and recorded before departure, there is a floor under the wage, and leaving is no longer at the employer’s discretion. That does not make every qatar work visa a good job. It does mean the structural protections are stronger than they were, and that a worker who knows the law is in a better position to use it.
